One very rare unique early multi colored leighton oxblood transitional handmade vintage marble with a clear base glass with four colors mixed in which are rare oxblood egg yolk yellow opaque white a rare unusual unique smokey transparent amethyst purple sitting over the top of the colors nearer to the surface giving it a amethyst base apperence but inside the nine pattern on the top. They were produced until the early part of the twentieth century when world war i and the invention of marble producing machinery in america effectively ended the hand made marble industry. It features a field crotch mahogany with a solid mahogany ogee shaped edge it has a hand rubbed and polished semigloss finish. Leighton counselled against the reproduction as the marble is less able to hold its own weight but eventually acquiesced and adapted the composition adding supports for the legs.

The four legs are classic ball and claw chippendale styling. Available in various sizes and finishes. This is a 98 diameter leighton style transition marble. Single faceted pontil surface is original condition not polished or buffed.
